Protests. Anti-Racism. Watch. Read. Listen. Learn.

I am sitting here with tears mixed with anger mixed with sadness. I want to stop reading essays, stop reading the social media, stop reading, stop watching ….. everything. And I can. I can step away. I can go on with my privileged life. I can go on without worry constantly for the safety of my sons because of the color of their skin. I can go on without worrying for my own safety because of the color of my skin.

And then I keep thinking…it’s not about me. This is about people who cannot step away. Who cannot take a break. Who live and breathe this each and every day.

Watch. Read. Listen. Learn. Let it chill you.

Do not respond instinctively, but do not turn away.

It’s not about you, but you must be here to experience it.

And thus I keep reading. I keep watching. I keep learning and listening. I keep getting angry…and sad. And I keep reading, and watching, and listening, and learning. I am seeking to understand. I am exploring where and how I can advocate and support and protest and donate. But it can never be enough. And we cannot stop. There is too much work to do.

And so I continue sitting here with tears mixed with anger mixed with sadness. AND I continue to learn, and read, and listen, and advocate, and share resources in the hopes that ALL my white friends join me….and that eventually (hopefully sooner than later) things begin to change. Hope.
