(with lots of other F words mixed in!)
I turn 50 this year. 50 in 2020.
50, I believe, allows for F words aplenty.
And while I’m sure I’ll use the F cuss word a lot,
I thought perhaps some other F words might also hit the spot.
So I begin 2020 with focus, fabulous, fearless, family & friends –
5 other F words that will now, for me, interdepend.
As I reflect on what is to come in 2020 and my flight towards 50, I decided to think about how I might spend this year. It’s going to be a year with a few changes:
- I’m turning 50. Seems like that’s significant in some way.
- My oldest son is graduating from high school and will be headed to college this fall.
- My youngest son will get his drivers license this spring and will be way more independent.
So….I came up with 5 words to consider daily as I go throughout the year:
FOCUS: With so many distractions, it’s easy to get lost in the mess. I can focus on me (exercise, healthy habits, reading, etc.). I can focus on work (figure out what is most important to get done and move forward). I can focus on family and friends (2 of my other F words). I can focus on saying “no” more. So many options….and each day I’ll focus.
FABULOUS: I want to feel fabulous, do fabulous things, produce fabulous work, engage with fabulous people. I want to celebrate the fabulous. I want to notice the fabulous. If it’s not fabulous, then why bother? If the book I start to read is really not that fabulous, why force myself to finish it? If I’m not feeling fabulous, I need to do something to change that. Fabulous as I finish up 49 surely leads to FABULOUS (yes, all caps FABULOUS) 50’s.
FEARLESS: I want to not be afraid to speak up, try things, and live my life fearlessly. I want to catch myself when I’m in “impostor syndrome” mode or when I’m feeling less confident in a situation. I want to always be bold. I look forward to exploring where and how I can be more fearless.
FAMILY: Our family time will be changing this year and I want to be sure to take full advantage of the time we have with both kids home. I want to celebrate the adventures to come as Kale heads to college in the fall and Zane gains more independence with his license. I look forward to figuring out new or renewed ways to engage with all my family as this year goes by.
FRIENDS: I want to deliberately make time for friends this year. Scheduled friend time in 2019 was amazing and I want more of it in 2020. Be ready, friends!
I hope to fearlessly write more in 2020 about my 5 words and journey. I look forward to this fabulous flight towards 50 throughout 2020. My birthday is October 26th…let the journey begin.
